CHACCHOBEN DISCOVERY TOUR

Enjoy an entire day steeped in history by visiting one of the main Mayan archaeological sites in southern Quintana Roo.Makes a perfect addition to a visit to one of the area’s beautiful seaside resorts to cool off, after a mystical tour through the jungle where you get to know our abundant flora and fauna.

Throughout the tour, we’ll see where the ancient Maya lived and had their ceremonial centers. You’ll be amazed at the architecture! Many of these sites were hidden in the lowland and middle jungles that fill our state.

We’ll visit the Chacchoben archaeological site with its ancient pyramid bases.

After the peak period of this ceremonial center, surrounding tribes used it as storage for the chicle gum that they extracted from the chicozapote trees that abound in the Yucatan Peninsula.

After visiting the archaeological site, we’ll take interpretative trails to get to know some of the vast array of flora and fauna at the site.

The tour will end with a swim at a resort in the village of Buenavista to cool off after our adventure on foot. This is another section of Laguna Bacalar.

Throughout the tour, we’ll see where the ancient Maya lived and had their ceremonial centers. You’ll be amazed at the architecture! Many of these sites were hidden in the lowland and middle jungles that fill our state.

We’ll begin with a visit to the archaeological site at Kohunlich. In addition to featuring several important pyramid bases, the site has clear images of Mayan art and architecture through the masks carved into the walls of the main pyramid. They are over 6 feet high!

Our tour will continue at the Dzibanché or Kinichná archaeological sites. When you climb one, you can see the top of the main pyramid of the other.

After visiting our chosen archaeological site, we’ll take interpretative trails to get to know some of the vast array of flora and fauna at the site.

The tour will end with a swim at a resort in the village of Palmar or Laguna Milagros, depending on the season, to cool off after our walking adventure through the beautiful sites in Quintana Roo.
