Bacalar and its lagoon of seven colors are a window to the past of the planet, having one of the most amazing life forms on earth, the stromatolites, are a protected natural wealth that benefits from the approval of the hydrological basin.
Due to its rocky nature, stromatolites have a lot of potential to last as a fossil, above all what were the living creatures of reefs; what is relevant is that they release oxygen to the atmosphere, in addition to having the lagoon body healthy.
Currently these fossils are an important tourist attraction of the region, every day, people from different parts of the world come to the place to konw them, the lack of knowledge for the treatment and care from visitors to these fossils has caused the deterioration and death of them, that is why we try to make our visitors aware of the value that these living beings really have and how they help maintain a balance in the environment.
What are stromatolites?
Stromatolites are laminated organo - sedimentary structures of calcium carbon that grow adhered to the substrate and emerge vertically from it, producing structures of great morphological variety, according to the Institute of Geology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
